Based on the idea from Rainer, we can provide an export to VW CarNet.

I’ll try with one exaple club first – and then we may have the right labels for the XML file. As we can import up to 50 POI Lists at CarNet we can possibly create different ones for different model categories such like Model Airfields for Heli, Planes, Slope etc. and sperate ones for „Slope only“.

The files can be imported thruough the CarNet Website into your Car and displayed there with Icons etc. See a example here based on the php query for GE (not the final state yet).

Up to 50 Lists means: if we Provider a list per Country, you Can import 50 Countrys. Is there a Limit of Pois per list?

Can you try adding this KML to your CarNet. Contains all model airfields in germany:

A list including its icons is limited to 5MB. We can upload 50 lists. I would consider about one list if it won’t be more than 5MB including a 200x200px icon.

The POI lists ignore the description tag (could be dropped). Just name and location is shown and used. See my example here:

    http://download.heliplanet.de/carnet/Test2.zip

The POI Lists can be imported through SD card for older RNS using the NAV Companion feature on VW Website, the CAR Net devices can use import through Car Net Website too as well as SD card. Don’t forget to enable user defined POI display in the GPS (up to 10 categories can be displayed in the MIBGen2 Discovery Media device)

The POI’s can not be searched or listed in the GPS, just selected through touchscreen – but then used for navigation too. Not that comfortable than expected but still useful for the navigation. E.g. searching the local club in Grevenbroich (tested Sunday) i will enter „Grevenbroich“ as target, calculate the route, then switch to target view in GPS, select the airfield there and use as new target (drop the old one). Of course we can move the map, zoom in and out searching for a club too.

Are you successfull importing this one:

    Works.

But – as suggested – i would drop the „description“ label and content completely – it isn’t used in Car Net – and keep the fielsize small.

Then – i would do 2 files, one for all „motorized“ airfields and one for „slope only“ fields. So – if someone isn’t interessted in slope (me personally) they won’t be displayed.

Also 2 different icons would be best 200x200px 😉

The Icon is „global“ for all POI in one list. It is imported with the List through a upload dialog. So – having different places (Motorized / slope) would be best different kml files and different icons.

Here an example of the import for your understanding. The import through SD card for non-carnet autos with NAv Companion has the same functionality.

I have asked at my colleques at the VW factory for the POI list display – it is known there to be possibly improved.

I have also asked for a field description which label contents from .kml are used beside name and coordinates, maybe there is more or not.
